How to Improve Your Spelling
Learning how to spell is a famously laborious and dull task and after all we all have words that for one reason or another we cannot spell. But spelling is important since it shows that the writer is diligent, thorough and able to command a good use of language, but it is not very exciting having to learn how to spell words. If your spelling really is a weakness then consideration should be given to using a spell checker facility, which will help to point out any words that are not spelled correctly and these will be highlighted, so that you can put them right. A good spell checker will even suggest words and spellings. But be careful and do not rely 100% on a spell checker as they cannot differentiate between words such as ‘their’ and ‘there’.
This may seem a little like cheating but for some people spelling is really difficult and despite the fact that they are very intelligent and capable their spelling lets them down. Thus a spell checker can ensure that work is as professional looking as possible and that the communication between the writer and the reader is maximised, because the reader will be able to concentrate on the message that is being conveyed, rather than being distracted by poor spelling.
You can even use the spell checker to learn how to spell. Once it has highlighted a word as being wrongly spelled then you should try to take note of how the word is spelled and then next time, try not to make the same mistake again, giving you the chance to learn whilst correcting your mistakes.
